Oops, I did it anyway

Yeah, I thought I wasn't going to write anything this weekend, and I still didn't really, but I did revisit a very old melody of mine. No major changes, just a different rhythmic perspective.

I feel like there are certain melodies that I've written that constantly evolve and develop different meanings to me as time goes on and the melodies are experienced in different contexts than when it was originally conceived. This melody has a lot of personal history to it, and this is by no means the best representation of it. It simply was stuck in my head and I had to let it out.

On a side note, everything you hear in this track was recorded and processed in my apartment; no stock samples in this (with the exception of the piano sounds). The rhythm is a bit minimalistic for me to really be proud of not using any stock samples, but it's a start. Hopefully there'll be enough time for me to churn out another, and hopefully more original tune next week.

Hrmph

Well, plans aborted. It's midterms week and not only did I work all weekend but I have entirely too much school work right now. Next week I'm headed home for my sister's birthday, perhaps that will be an opportune time to flesh out some ideas.

It's Fall and it's Lovely

This song is all up in my head right now:

It's a gorgeous day outside, and I can't wait to get involved in another song.  Something original this time.  I'm hoping to get some work done with DJ Eade, but who knows.  It's an inspiring day and I might just write something for the hell of it and send demos to my musical friends and see if they want to join me in my quest to write a really good song this week.

I think I'm going to start using this more.

I haven't used this blog that much and really only use it as a formality.  I'm usually a social creature, enjoying increased feelings of well being and productivity, but people have disappointed me a little too much as of late.  So, my hopes are that this will keep me off facebook.

I decided to cover "Chim Chim Cheree" from Mary Poppins. Enjoy:

First time I've felt somewhat comfortable with my own voice, althought I'd rather have used someone else's.  The violin was played by my friend, Caitlyn Kuhs; everything was composed and played by me, with the exception of the bass which I composed in Ableton.
